Valentines, Made in the USA

As with nearly every holiday on the calendar, it’s hard to imagine Valentines without flock. From Valentines Day cards to candy boxes to the linings of those small ring boxes wrapped with a sweet red bow, flocking is a holiday standard.

Much of it is made in North America. In fact, Hallmark’s high end Signature greeting card collection is made from flock cut and dyed in the USA, then manufactured at Hallmark’s plant in Kansas.

Cellusuede Products, Inc., cuts and dyes rayon flock for Hallmark. The process includes precision cutting of raw tow, which is then dyed, dried, and packaged for delivery from Cellusuede’s Rockford, Illinois plant. Each flock fiber is .5 millimeter in length, which is 20/100’s of an inch.

Cellusuede’s flock can be dyed virtually any Pantone color. For Valentines, this means variations of red or pink, all made to order.

AFA recently visited local stores looking for examples of Valentines Day products made with flock, and we found several. You can find greeting cards from Hallmark’s Signature collection at most Hallmark stores, and that line also includes birthday and miscellaneous event cards made from flock.

As far as jewelry goes, look no further than your local jeweler. And while you are at it, be sure to remember your sweetheart with a present. As they say, diamonds are forever!
